Aspen, Colorado will be the home for the X Games with Chrysler LLC’s Jeep brand sponsoring it for the eleventh (11th) year. The company, in conjunction with its sponsorship, launched an advertising campaign that will peak between January 23rd and January 26th – which is when the games will air on ESPN. Jeep executives state that the campaign touts, specifically, the capabilities of the Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition.
CEO of Jeep Mike Manley said that the campaign allows consumer “to engage with us in a way that is a natural fit for the Jeep brand.” Mr. Manley’s statement begs the question: What is the natural fit to engage customers? It is to observe the Jeep in its natural state: tearing through strenuous conditions so taxing on every component that any other vehicle would be rendered immobile and stranded.
The commercial the automaker developed helps sate that engagement. In it, the Wrangler Polar Edition, glistening in its custom Ice Blue, tosses coats of powder while it muscles through a snow-covered mountain. A song accompanies it, declaring owners of this beast will dislike – no, loathe – temperatures above not conducive for heaps of snow.
Print, digital, and social facets of the campaign will supplement the television advertisements. There is even a social-media program that tasks participants to utilize clues in their efforts to find “badges” concealed on Internet sites. Each badge earns an entry in this aptly titled “Polar Quest.” Three participants already won an all-expenses-paid trip to the X Games where they will vie for a chance to win the Wrangler Polar edition. An additional three winners won a trip for two to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A final three, chosen on January 29th, win Jeep gear.
